The data are information about the 8,711 alumni for which Grinnell College has information on what it believes to be current career. It was provided by the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at Grinnell. The data was sorted into categories by Vocations and unemployed or unknown career individuals were removed from the data set. All graduates before 1970 were removed to have some consistency in careers over time. Some majors are not shown in this dataset due to lack of knowledge and are thus included under Independent and Unknown. Majors included in that would include Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. Individuals that were double majors were counted twice, once for each of their majors. Some of these majors have changed or merged over time–the Computer Science department is one of the younger ones, having been created in the 1990’s. American Studies is no longer a major at Grinnell College. The chord visualization was created by David Hanle (’14) and Toby Baratta (’17).
