This is a time-enabled map displaying mortality rates in the United States. The map displays the percent of the population of each state that died from any cause. The data come from the National Center for Health Statistics. To determine the population size of each state for each year, data were collected from the United States Census Bureau. Please note that in the most recent years, some mortality rates are missing because too few died from certain causes at the state level to be reported for reasons of confidentiality. This data will become available in the future. Due to an unresolved problem with ArcGIS Online, the years are displayed as the year previous. 1969 became 1968, and so on. Once we find a solution, the map will be updated.
