The data come from the National Center for Health Statistics. Please note that in the most recent years, some mortality rates are missing because too few died from certain causes at the state level to be reported for reasons of confidentiality. Data downloaded by Adam Lauretig and updated in 2014 by Sara Sanders. Graphing software written and designed by Emircan Uysaler and Kim Spasaro.
